Healthcare barcode scanners

Healthcare scanners are used for patient identification, medication traceability and medical device checks. Their housing is built to be disinfected several times a day.

The points to look at before choosing:

• Compatibility with hospital disinfectants, which crack standard plastics
• Smooth housing, with no grooves for germs to sit in
• Reading of GS1 DataMatrix codes printed on medicine boxes

Do not take a standard scanner and plan to wipe it carefully. After a few months of hand sanitiser the plastic whitens then splits, and the warranty does not cover it.
