Mobile label printers

Worn on the belt or on a shoulder strap, a mobile printer produces the label right next to the parcel. It removes the walk to the fixed printer, the biggest time sink in picking.

The points to look at before choosing:

• Print width, 2, 3 or 4 inches, matched to the label produced
• Battery life across a full shift, and availability of a spare battery
• Drop resistance, since the device falls more often than a fixed model

Always plan one spare battery per device. A mobile printer flat at two in the afternoon idles a picker for the rest of the shift.
