Barcode and identification labels

The label identifies the product, the parcel or the location. Three things decide the choice, none of which concern the printer: material, adhesive and expected life.

What the choice comes down to:

• Material: paper for short use, polypropylene or polyester for damp and abrasion
• Adhesive: permanent, removable or high-tack for cold and greasy surfaces
• Size and core, which must match the printer model

The commonest mistake is ordering a paper label for a machine-washed crate. It will not last a week. The premium on synthetic is marginal next to relabelling.
